We went to visit Ben's sister Catie and family in Indiana for the holiday weekend. The kids had so much fun playing together and so did the adults! :)
On the way out we passed some outlets and I stopped quick to do a little shopping - Ben kept the boys happy with the carousel. They didn't actually pay to make it move, but they had fun sitting on it anyways.
Carson loves Drew and talks about him all the time. He often randomly asks me if we can go play with Drew - so when we told him we were going to Drew's house for a whole weekend, he was beside himself with excitement. I think it lived up to all the hype!
Catie and Troy have this little fish pond in the back yard and their kids love to swim in it. Our boys never got the courage to just jump in, but they had fun playing around it and Hudson had fun throwing things in that he wasn't supposed to be throwing.
Catie and I ran to Aldi and when we were there, we found these inflatable body suits and thought it would be hilarious to watch the kids in them. So we did what any respectable parent would do, and we bought them without a second thought. Carson and Drew immediately put them on and started running into each other.
This is how it ended every time - Drew still standing, and Carson flat as a pancake on the ground. So again, like any respectable parent, Catie and I were standing on the side cheering Carson on and telling him to hit Drew harder. I wish I could accurately explain Carson's face before he took off running - sheer determination to take Drew down. They ran, hit hard, and both fell down crying. And when they lifted their heads, there was lots of blood and tears. Carson split his forehead and Drew his chin! Catie and I immediately felt terrible, but also the situation was just hilarious.
Troy glued Drew's chin shut. Carson needed stitches, and it was July 4th at 5pm, so to the ER we went. Luckily there was no wait and we got right back to see the doctor.
Carson was very somber in the waiting room and in triage when the nurse was asking him questions - to the point I was worried he had a concussion or something. But it turns out he was just really nervous. As soon as it was all over, he was back to his happy and chatty self!
Before stitches After stitches
Note the sad face - there were lots of tears involved. In order to keep him still, they made the poor kid put his arms in a pillow case behind him and then get wrapped in a tight blanket, and then he had to lay with his hands under his back. Poor kid was freaking out before they even started because of being restrained. I would have hated it too. When they were doing the actual stitches, he was so polite, crying things like, "No, no. no. Please don't do that anymore. That does not feel good!" It was so funny and sad at the same time.
Five stitches later and and a $1400 ER bill, we were on our way back home :) Thankful for good health insurance!
Catie gave Carson this Lego set before we left so that he would be brave during stitches. He was so happy to have survived and to be holding those Legos again!
We ended the evening with a quick dinner, baths, and fireworks in the driveway.
The next day we went to Troy's brother's house for the afternoon to celebrate Drew's 6th birthday. They had adorable puppies that Hudson was enamored with!
It was a swimming party and unfortunately Carson wasn't allowed to get his face wet. We put a water bandage over it and let him splash in the water - he still had fun!
You might be a hillbilly if you use your jet ski in your pond.
Happy Birthday Drew! We had such a fun weekend celebrating with you!
