The Windy City

The Shirk and Wenger families planned a weekend at Eric and Karen's house in November.  Everyone was able to be there and it was SO good to all be together.  Almost like old times -- but missing Jenna so so much.  It was such a great weekend full of so many laughs, tears, memories, reminiscing, and sight seeing.  We all arrived on Friday evening and the Shirks had pizza for us at their house.  We had fun just hanging out and playing games while the kids played.

We stayed in a hotel not too far from their house.  Ben and I thought it would be a good idea to share our room with Whitney and Matt to save money, which meant all four of us sleeping in one queen bed!  It was not our best nights of sleeping, that is for sure.

Ready for a day of sight seeing!

Saturday morning we met at the train station to head downtown.

The boys thought it was so fun to ride the train.  It was about a 45 minute trip downtown.

First stop:  Willis Tower

It was chilly, but we stayed pretty warm with all the walking we did.  Carson was thankful for Kristen's scarf to use as a blanket!

Up we go! The elevator ride was really quick.

My dad is standing on one of the observation decks with the glass floor.  Ben is standing right at the edge - don't let him fool you, he was pretty nervous to walk out there! :)

I can't believe I walked out on the deck.  I didn't look down once, and if you notice my knees were literally knocking.

We all stepped on for a quick photo - turns out a fear of heights at 2 years old is possible.  Hudson was not a fan!

Next we headed to a nearby food court to get some lunch.  The kids all took their turns falling asleep throughout the day!

We spent the day walking around the city and checking out different sights.  It was a long trek across town to Navy Pier and we relaxed for a bit before taking off again.

We wanted to get to the Bean before dark, so we started walking and realized we were pushing it to be there by dusk so we ended up getting quite a workout in speed walking a good few miles.

We made it just before dark and we all had fun checking out our reflection and taking pictures.

Love these people.

Tuckered out after a long day!

On Sunday, the grandparents kept all of the kids and the rest of us headed downtown again for the day.  We started it off with deep dish pizza.  Sooo good!

Next we walked to a theater to see Blue Man Group.

We were all surprised to realize that our tickets were not only in the splash zone, but the very first row.  The show was really entertaining and most of us stayed pretty dry.  Except for Whitney -- she got blasted with mashed banana and was picking it out of her hair hours later. :)

After the show, the girls and guys split.  Us girls headed for Madison Ave. to do some shopping while the guys headed to see an IMAX movie.  Tyler and Kristin took off for home right after the show because they both had to work Monday morning.  We had a fun afternoon exploring, window shopping, and doing a little damage as well!  Jenna was missed immensely while we were shopping as we all wanted to ask for her good fashion advice like we always do.  We bought these teal scarves in honor of her <3

Carson thought I was the coolest mom ever when I showed him this picture :)

Monday morning the boys went swimming in the hotel pool before we packed up and headed for home.

Such a fun weekend!  Can't wait to do it again!
